+ Back in the day I
used GeekTool to place widgets on my desktop. When that computer got stolen
(PSA: get renter's insurance y'all…absolutely worth it), I never took the time
to set it up again on the new machine.
+ This time around, years later, I decided to try Übersicht. The setup is simple, and the widgets are written using languages I can somewhat make sense of for placement and minor style tweaking (HTML, CSS, and CoffeeScript).
+ My desktop is now akin to a kitchen counter: items of often interest at a
glance, space to spread out while "cooking", and clean and tidy
otherwise.
+ Visit a full gallery for more background screenshots with these widgets.
